Are you feeling burned out? Here’s some tools to help!

Hi Everyone! If you’re reading this, I suspect that in some ways, you might find yourself feeling burned out. Although this means a little something different for everyone, I imagine that we can all relate to feeling bummed, less-productive and in need of a break. I definitely understand this and have felt this way on and off, especially during quarantine.

First of all, know that you aren’t alone and that to some degree, most of us are feeling this way. I want to remind you that it’s actually normal to feel this way sometimes, especially in such a strange time. Nobody prepared us to “live” in a pandemic, isolated from other people a lot of the time, unable to do things that we love to do.

Here’s a good reminder for all of us: the fact that we are experiencing these feelings might actually mean that we are more in touch with the world around us and these difficult emotions validate that fact that we are compassionate, complex and intelligent human beings. Although these feelings aren’t fun sometimes, they are part of being human and we may have to learn to embrace both the good times and the tough times in life.

Here’s some tools that can help us during those times when we feel like we’re in a funk:

  1. Talk - whether it’s to a friend, family member or a therapist - talk about how you’re feeling. Whether this comes naturally to you or you have to remind yourself to open up, talking about what’s going on in our lives and how that makes us feel is important.

  2. Workout but… listen to your body. On Friday, I went out for a walk and got home to finish up my workout and felt zero energy. Want to know what I did? I sat on the couch! Once in a while, it’s important to recognize when your body needs movement and when your body needs rest. Reach out to me if you need help determining this.

3. Go EASY on yourself. This one is the most important tool. Do you ever get frustrated with yourself if you aren’t doing great all the time? Does that frustration ever help your situation? Try talking to yourself like you are your own bestie. Validate yourself on things that feel hard right now. Remember that you are human and there is no such thing as perfection - no matter what Instagram tells you.

Always cheering y’all on!!  My personal training business has become so much than just a fitness business. My clients and I connect on such a deeper level than just doing push ups! If you’d like to try a session, feel free to reach out - would love to help you!
