Take Yourself on a Mini Adventure!

This week’s blog post wasn’t exactly planned! I was going to break down some upper body exercises and talk about the benefits . . . but then I realized there’s something else I want to talk about! I’ve realized that for most of this year - almost 365 days - I’ve gone on the same walk through our neighborhood. And don’t get me wrong, our neighborhood is pretty darn cute! But, I started realizing that I didn’t really feel excited about my daily walks anymore. In fact, sometimes I felt kinda sad knowing it was going to be the same walk, seeing the same houses on the same streets. I don’t want to complain because I’m lucky to have such beautiful weather, but I started to observe the way I was feeling.

Today I decided to branch out and take myself on a mini adventure! I drove my car to a new area and took a different route. And I gotta tell you - it truly made me feel happy! It was so fun seeing new homes, new trees, even new people! It got me out of my typical routine and allowed me to see some variety. It’s funny because it was only 15 minutes from my apartment. I also brought my mini band along and did some lower body exercises outside too!

After listening to a lot of podcasts recently about psychology, I’m learning that we become more creative when we step out of our typical routines and step into nature. Our brains love seeing a new view and in return, we often feel a sense of joy and accomplishment just by doing something different.

Here’s something you could try: take yourself on a mini adventure whether it’s to a new grocery store, a different walking trail or even just taking other streets than your typical way home. Observe what you see around you and be mindful of things you might not normally notice! I would LOVE to hear about your adventure!!
