What is Mindful Eating?

Hi Everyone! I hope y’all are enjoying your summer - cannot believe it's already August!

I wanted to talk about mindful eating because it seems to be a popular term in the health and fitness world right now. So what is mindful eating? It’s practicing being fully present when you are eating your meals, taking the time to eat slowly and enjoy your food. And you know what? I love this concept! I’ve started to practice this myself the last few years and have incorporated it into my 6 week nutrition program as well.

The main reason why I love the concept of mindful eating is that it helps me not overeat. It has other benefits too like realizing how good my meal is and really paying attention to all the flavors! But for me, the feeling of overeating makes me feel tired and too full and I’ve found that mindful eating is a great way to avoid that! I’ve really made it a habit to slow down and enjoy my meals & that usually makes me realize I get fuller faster than I think!

Something I say to my clients: make sure your brain and belly have time to communicate. Sometimes the quicker we eat, the less time we give our belly time to tell our brain we’re slowing down! During your next meal, try to take your time, taste every bite and observe the time it takes you to become full - it may be sooner than you think!
